The moon covers the sun completely along a narrow path from the Strait of Gibraltar to the Horn of Africa, with up to 6 min 23 s of totality near Luxor. Across the rest of Europe, north Africa and the Middle East it is a partial eclipse. The times and durations in the tables are computed for each place, not copied from a published list.
268 DAYS TO GO
In these places the sun is completely covered. Totality starts at the time shown and lasts about as long as the last column; the sun's height is at the middle of the eclipse.
| Place | Totality starts | Lasts, about | Sun height |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cadiz Spain |
10:45 UTC+2 | 2 min 50 s | 37° |
| Tangier Morocco |
08:44 UTC | 4 min 50 s | 38° |
| Tarifa Spain |
10:44 UTC+2 | 4 min 40 s | 38° |
| Gibraltar Gibraltar |
10:45 UTC+2 | 4 min 20 s | 38° |
| Malaga Spain |
10:48 UTC+2 | 1 min 50 s | 39° |
| Benghazi Libya |
11:27 UTC+2 | 6 min 10 s | 68° |
| Luxor Egypt |
13:01 UTC+3 | 6 min 20 s | 82° |
| Jeddah Saudi Arabia |
13:22 UTC+3 | 6 min | 76° |
Durations are rounded down to ten seconds. Near the edge of the path (Cadiz and Malaga sit close to the northern limit) a few kilometres change the duration by a minute or more, so check your exact spot before you travel.
Here the moon covers part of the sun only. Seville and Cairo come close to totality but miss it, and in the UK and Ireland it is a morning partial eclipse.

Somewhere else? The eclipses page works out the times and coverage for any location.
Never look at the sun without certified eclipse glasses or a properly filtered telescope. Sunglasses, exposed film and smoked glass are not safe, and a partial eclipse is just as damaging as an ordinary day: the sun is no dimmer where it is uncovered. Only during totality itself, when the sun is completely covered, is it safe to look without protection.
That is the climate, not a forecast: in early August, Egypt and western Saudi Arabia are usually dry and cloudless, and southern Spain and northern Morocco are usually settled, though haze and low cloud from the sea can sit over the Strait of Gibraltar on some mornings. Only the forecast for the day itself can tell you more.
ClearSkys forecasts a week ahead, so the forecast for eclipse day opens on 27 July 2027. Until then the links show the current week: Cadiz, Tangier, Tarifa, Gibraltar, Malaga, Benghazi, Luxor, Jeddah.
Computed with astronomy-engine for each place at sea level, with a smooth lunar edge. Local times follow each country's published clock rules for August 2027; a country that changes its rules before then will differ by an hour.
